From the first moment, Chene by Serge Lutens is thyme: a stern herbal glow over roast skin. Then rum deepens the blend with warm liquor with burnt sugar edges, birch threading the clean grain of birchwood alongside it. Oak threads a solid wood note with brown depth over the blend, tonka bean moving through as a beige glow with almond shadows. The overall effect is warm and edible, a sweet, woody heart edged with aromatic herbs.
